About Us and Our Projects

Project Description

This pilot project funded by the Labour and Welfare Bureau aims to create a database of e-learning materials for the promotion of inclusive education “Guide to Barrier-free Inclusion”, to introduce the talents and needs of people with disabilities through interesting methods, including text, video, photos and interactive games. In the first phase of the project, primary school students were introduced to the information on disability inclusion for the physically disabled, visually impaired and hearing impaired. This database of e-learning materials also contains lesson plans and handouts on inclusive activities for school teachers to help their students to experience and understand the needs of people with disabilities in the classroom. At the end of the pilot project, the database will be further expanded and other disability-specific information will be added in phases according to the actual situation, so as to benefit more members of the public and to promote the integration of people with disabilities in the community.

About Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth

Founded in 1970, the Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth (HKFHY) is a government-registered non-profit organisation run and managed by the disabled. As the disabled were not given due attention in education, employment and welfare institutions at that time, dozens of physically disabled people formed the HKFHY to promote the welfare of the disabled.

As the oldest self-help organisation for the physically disabled community in Hong Kong, the Federation has developed innovative services to meet the needs of people with disabilities, in addition to those subsidised by the Social Welfare Department. Currently, the Federation’s services provided by the Federation include the Jockey Club Activity Centre, the Employment Service Centre and the Momentum Academy, as well as social enterprise projects such as First Sense Design, Flower Workshop and the Hong Kong Champion Bear. Through the implementation of the above services, we hope to help people with disabilities to rebuild their self-confidence, build up their social network, and enhance their work skills and employment opportunities, so as to facilitate their integration into the community.

Aspiration

To bring together young people with disabilities, to promote the spirit of self-help, and to facilitate the full integration, participation and contribution of people with disabilities to the community by advocating for equal opportunities, developing rehabilitation services and operating social enterprises.

Service Objectives

Through the participation of people with disabilities in the management, service delivery and interaction, we implement the concept of self-help and helping others with a caring attitude;

To promote the development of rehabilitation policies and public education to achieve equal opportunities;

To build on the concept of sustainability in providing appropriate, innovative and quality services to people with disabilities;

To develop self-financing enterprises to provide direct employment opportunities for people with disabilities, so as to enable them to become self-reliant; and

To encourage people with disabilities to participate in voluntary work and to contribute to the promotion of a harmonious and inclusive society.
